A R T I S O F T Update ***************************************************************** Subject: LANtastic 8.0 update for Windows 95/98 This update consists of the following files: INSTALL.BAT 2,021 10/01/99 2:51p INSTALL.BAT VLTSERV.VPE 43,504 09/30/99 11:26a VLTSERV.VPE VSVRSNB.VPE 42,560 09/30/99 11:22a VSVRSND.VPE README.TXT 10/15/99 readme.txt (This file) ****************************************************************** Most recent fixes included in this patch are: Problem Report Number: T17860 Some laptops, running Windows 98 and LANtastic 8.0, are able to run as a client, but not as a server. ******************************************************************* RECOMMENDED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS ******************************************************************* This update was designed to fix the above issue with Windows 98 notebook computers; however, this update is suitable for all Windows 95 or 98 machines running LANtastic server. The file INSTALL.BAT is designed to be run from within Windows, in either Normal Mode or Safe Mode. The file can be run by double-clicking it from Explorer, run from a Command Prompt, or by using Start | Run. In Safe Mode you may receive a warning about MS-DOS programs running in Safe Mode - you may ignore this message and proceed. Executing the file INSTALL.BAT will automatically rename the existing .VXD files with a .000 extension, and copy the new files to the proper location. The machine must then be rebooted to complete the update. Applying the update manually **************************** Extract the update files to a temporary folder of your choosing. Then click Start | Find | Files or Folders, and search for the file VLTSERV.VPE (be sure the "Look in" parameter is set to search the C:\ root or the Windows install directory). Once this file is located, click File | Rename, and rename it to VLTSERV.000. Do the same thing with the file VSVRSNB.VPE. Once these files have been renamed, copy the update files to the \\system directory. Once these files have been copied, restart the machine and the update will be complete. Reapplying the update ********************* The install program checks for the existance of VLTSERV.000 - if this file is located it assumes the update has already been applied and will abort. If you wish to reapply the update we recommend you rename the files VLTSERV.000 and VSVRSNB.000 located in the \\system directory noted in the section above. Once these files have been renamed, the update can be successfully reapplied. End of readme.txt **************************************************
